Western Digital Announces SanDisk SD Express and MicroSD Express Cards with SSD-like Performance

In addition to the new memory cards, the manufacturer has also announced WD Red Pro HDD hard drives with capacities up to 24TB in the same drive.

Increasing demands for rich, high-quality content are driving Western Digital to develop faster and more flexible storage solutions for professionals and creators in the Media & Entertainment (M&E) sector. The manufacturer has previewed to the Spanish press the products and solutions it will be showcasing at NAB 2024, taking place 13-17 April 2024 in Las Vegas, designed to optimise intensive workflows and address the demands of today’s projects.

Western Digital currently has 12 factories worldwide and a workforce of more than 53,000 employees to meet the growing demand for these types of solutions for both the consumer and professional markets.

One of the most anticipated launches is the new series of next-generation SanDisk SD and microSD Express cards. These cards offer transfer speeds comparable to SSDs and are ideal for applications requiring fast data access. Equipped with innovative SanDisk ThermAdapt technology for temperature management, these cards ensure optimal performance even under demanding conditions. They are expected to be available for purchase this summer from both Western Digital’s online shop and authorised retailers.

The SanDisk SD Express card, in 128GB and 256GB capacities, is up to 4.4 times faster than conventional UHS-I SD cards, making it an ideal choice for high-performance cameras and future devices. Similarly, the SanDisk microSD Express card offers industry-leading performance, also 4.4x faster than previous microSD UHS-I cards.

In addition to these high-speed cards, Western Digital is also introducing high-capacity memory cards. The SanDisk Extreme PRO® SDXC UHS-I 4TB card is the world’s first SDXC UHS-I card with this capacity, ideal for capturing high-resolution images and 4K UHD video on a single card. In addition, the 2TB microSDXC UHS-I card offers an unprecedented storage solution for devices with microSD slots.

To meet enterprise-scale storage needs, Western Digital is introducing new enterprise-class WD Red Pro Ultrastar drives with capacities up to 24TB and speeds of 7200 RPM. These drives are designed to support high-definition workflows such as 4K, 8K and virtual reality (VR), providing a reliable, high-performance solution for backup and storage of critical content.

In addition, the company introduces advanced RAID solutions such as the 48TB G-RAID MIRROR, which offers automatic file mirroring for increased data security, and the 192TB G-RAID SHUTTLE 8, which provides exceptional transfer speeds for real-time video workflows.

This platform, with a capacity of up to 368TB, offers high-speed connectivity and advanced data security, ideal for broadcasters, studios and production houses.

With these innovative storage solutions, Western Digital is positioning itself as a leader in the M&E market by providing cutting-edge technology that allows professionals to optimise their workflows and focus on their creativity without compromising performance or data security.
