Isolated Cloud for Governments and Defence Organisations

Oracle Cloud Isolated Regions are secure, internet-disconnected cloud solutions.
Governments and defence organisations demand the highest levels of security. Oracle Cloud Isolated Regions are purpose-built to meet these stringent requirements. They provide compute, security, storage, and networking services in a local environment that is completely isolated from the public internet. These shielded Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) solutions offer the same broad range of services as the Oracle Public Cloud. Oracle Cloud Isolated Region is specifically designed to support governments and global defence missions at hyperscale and includes a fully integrated suite of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
Singapore Ministry of Defence chooses Oracle
Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) has recently signed a contract with Oracle for an Oracle Cloud Isolated Region to support the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) with highly secure cloud computing, data management, and AI services.
“Through this partnership with Oracle, we will leverage advanced cloud and AI technologies to digitalise and transform our operations,” said Ng Chad-Son, Chief Executive of DSTA. Oracle provides a scalable, internet-disconnected cloud region that supports the SAF’s C4 functions (Command, Control, Communications and Computers) with modern infrastructure.
Fully sovereign model already in operation for the UK Government
Oracle provides a sovereign, dedicated cloud with two regions for UK Government and defence sector customers (UK Government Cloud), tailored to meet the specific requirements of the British government. The dual-region model was developed in collaboration with multiple UK government and defence departments and consists of two geographically separate locations – London and Newport, Wales. These sites are connected by a private, high-speed network backbone and are isolated from Oracle’s other commercial hyperscale cloud regions. They are operated by UK citizens with Security Check (SC) clearance.
UK government organisations and their key partners can use this setup to meet data sovereignty requirements and access a full cloud infrastructure platform with all the services needed to build and run applications within a highly secure, compliant, scalable, and private community cloud.
Secure processing and analysis of fighter jet data streams
To address the complex big data challenges posed by platforms such as fighter jets, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers a broad range of services with integrated security. In isolated environments like the Oracle Cloud Isolated Region, defence agencies can run mission-critical workloads. This includes the ability to ingest and analyse terabytes of fighter jet data streams close to the source (Far Edge), even when connectivity is lost. Once a connection is re-established to a cloud environment (such as the Oracle Cloud Isolated Region), data can be transferred or synchronised accordingly.
OCI services such as Stream Analytics and the use of custom AI models are deployed in these scenarios. This approach can be applied to many other use cases where latency- and connectivity-sensitive applications need to process large datasets generated at remote sites. It helps to offload the communications infrastructure, reduce data transfer costs, and improve application responsiveness.
